Did anyone care that you got cut from the dunk tank chair and were bleeding? Geez... I've had several jobs like the ones you described, but nothing like the Dunk Tank!
"I knew deep down that money was the only way to quell the aching distance that poverty had created between me and the world I wanted to be part of." - this is beautiful. Totally agree and totally understand. I've learned that the magic number for poor folks to afford an upper middle class lifestyle is to earn 2-4 times higher than the average salary of their more privileged peers. That's because we have a lot of deficit to cover. Here's to bridging that gap!🥂
The part about being comfortable to swipe your card without looking is so relatable and wasn’t something I managed to find until years after college. The twist at the end hit hard too those jobs we thought sounded great on paper don’t always end up going the way we want.

They did not care nearly as much as they should have, ha!
Thanks for this story. I've been there...sort of, many many years ago. This tale left me feeling pity and anger...and brought back memories.
Thank you for reading Marianna and I’m glad you could relate🩷

Thank you John, so much for reading! I’m glad you can relate. Gosh, that sounds like a lot of money!! Discouraging, but also lights a fire in me😃
So good and painfully true about what survival can demand.
